Scene One Crtitical Analysis- A Streetcar named Desire

1.Williams is trying to emit the atmosphere of decay. The white buildings (obviously an anyusion to Blanche) and quaintly ornamented gables all make us believe that this neighborhood was one time gigantic and wholesome kept, but has been neglected and is now run-down, but has a certain charm to it. The warm breath of the river as well as the faint redolences of bananas and coffee helps mint a more homey atmosphere. The Blue Piano lead sends out a heavily depressive note, which goes sight in hand with the depressive state of this once great neighborhood, or the spirit of biography as Williams likes to put it. Even the name, Elysian Fields ( essence enlightenment or Paradise on Earth) misleads the reader, but helps reference the celestial orbits once majestic setting. This setting is perfect for Blanches visit. It is not a new-fashioned bustling city, but a more relaxed and natural area (as shown by the negro entertainers and the slow beat of the Blue Piano), making her feel more comfortable and able to settle in more easily.

2.The readers first impression of Stanley is a very effectual description of his character throughout the rest of the play. It starts off with him and Mitch go down a reasonable seedy city street. Amongst the undulate and bustle of the night life, the loud shouts of the Negro Woman and Vendor.
