Boeing Boeing by French track downwright Marc Camoletti was performed at the Port Mansion Theatre by the lakeside Players, on Thursday June 4th, 2009. The play was directed by one(a) of the Companys founders, Paul Wintemute. This fast paced, light hearted, witty, award-winning farce was very well done, featuring strong performances from the characters; great come in design and costuming. These all provided the audience with an evening of slapstick prank about a roué with three mistresses.
Boeing Boeing was written by Marc Camoletti in 1962 and remains Camolettis signature hit. The original London production, which was translated to English by Beverley Cross, opened at the Apollo Theatre, transferred to the Duchess, and ran for seven years and was performed more than 2000 times. In 1991, the play was entered into the Guinness Book of Records as the most performed French play throughout the world. Other plays penned by Camoletti include La Bonne Anna and breakt Dress for Dinner. Camoletti was an award winning playwright who died in Normandy France in 2003.
The story of Boeing Boeing takes place in Paris France, the metropolis of love, in the 1960s. Bernard is a successful English architect who lives in Paris and precariously balances relationships with three flight attendant fiancées: an American (Janet), a Parisian (Jacqueline) and a German (Judith). With the befriend of his accommodating housekeeper Bertha, who adjusts the menus and bedroom décor depending on the arrivals and departures, Bernard lives by track their airlines timetables. He has managed to convince each girl that they are the barely one in his life. When Bernards old college friend, Robert arrives unexpectedly, Bernard proudly explains to the naïve visitor how he manages his complicated love life by scheduling.
