The term canvasing applies to a wide array of work in many aspects of business. When more or less people think of auditing they think of the detailed examination of account records. Financial statement and internal control audits are completed by independent auditors, who may gather some of the needed discipline from the companys internal auditors.
The framework for financial statement audits is the generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS) that have been adopted by twain the PCAOB and the Auditing Standards Board of the AICPA. These standards consist of 10 guidelines divided into three categories; general standards, field work standards, and standards of reporting.
