19th Sentry Wars

Dennis Schaffer Gettysburg         Gettysburg was one of the several differences that happened in the Civil War. This battle was a three day battle. It started on July 1, 1863 west of the town McPherson, and the wedlock corps. holding the line waiting for the eleventh corps to catch extending the junction line farther north. Then the accomplice human face forced them selfs which pushed the Union troops back to the burial site hill, which thusly the town was captured by the southerners. Next July 2nd there was no fighting in the morning cause both sides where awaiting the arrival of the new units. In late afternoon confederates attacked the Union left over(p) flank at little round top, devils den, the wheatfield, the peach orchard, and on the emmitsburg road. The Union forces where beat everywhere little round top, where the confederates where stopped. At the same time the confederates attacked the union at culps hill and cemetery hill, but union held up. At the next battle along the cemetery ridge they won cause of picketts charge. A cavalary battle 3 miles form town ended the war. The war though continued for more then 2 yrs. The union and confederate armies suffered a total of 51,000 casulties, of which 10,000 were killed or dead of wounds, 30,000 wounded, 11,000 captured or describe missing.

        Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain was born Sept. 8, 1828, in Brewer, Maine. He is best remembered for two vast events: the action at Little Round Top, on the act day of Gettysburg (July2, 1863), when then-Colonel Chamberlain and the 20th Maine held the extreme left flank of the Union line against a fierce rebel attack, and the tumble of Lees army of Northern Virginia at Appomattox, when Grant chose Chamberlain to receive the formal surrender of weapons and colors (April 12, 1865).
